The Batz Cooperative

The Batz Cooperative is made up of 13 women who live in San Juan La Laguna, Guatemala and is part of the Vern Clothing initiative. Vern is dedicated to helping disadvantaged artisans and weavers in remote locations earn fair wages for the hand crafted items. They work directly with 5 cooperatives in Guatemala aiding them to sell their products to the international markets.

Cooperatives such as Batz provide many benefits to their members including protection from the volatility of market prices and the downward market pressure on price often faced by manufacturers of handmade goods. Cooperatives provide stability and and a safe and dignified workplace.
