Our Journey: From Global Sourcing to British Craftsmanship

The story of The House of Silk began in 2003 with a global exploration. Seeking the finest silk, we visited numerous factories in India and China. Recognizing the exceptional quality and potential in Chinese silk, we established our foreign office in Shanghai in 2004.

That same year, we launched our first online presence, steadily expanding our product ranges year after year, including our own exclusive designs under The House of Silk label.

In February 2009, we relocated to larger premises in Anglesey, Wales, bringing our offices and a much-needed warehouse together. This new space also allowed us to create our own photography studio, capturing the beauty of our silk on our in-house models.

The rising cost of silk from mid-2009 prompted us to broaden our horizons. In early 2010, we researched alternative sourcing in India, Thailand, Nepal, and Vietnam. This led to the introduction of our popular 50% silk / 50% viscose range from Vietnam, crafted from hand-woven fabric in smaller workshops, offering a beautiful alternative with excellent drape and a more accessible price point. We also expanded our polyester satin offerings and continued our research in Vietnam and China.

In 2017, we moved to our current premises in Wolverhampton, West Midlands.

By 2019, with continued increases in silk prices, we embarked on an ambitious new chapter: exploring the possibility of manufacturing silk garments right here in the UK.

This vision began to take shape in 2021 with the commencement of extension work at our Wolverhampton facility. Our goal was to create a dedicated space to bring the intricate process of silk clothing manufacturing in-house.

Today, in 2025, we are proud to announce the culmination of this journey. Our in-house manufacturing is now a reality, allowing us to meticulously control every aspect of our New Era silk clothing production. From sourcing the finest raw silk to the final stitch, this enables us to uphold the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship, ensuring that every garment bearing The House of Silk name is truly exceptional. We are excited to bring our premium silk ranges back into stock, crafted with the expertise gained from over two decades in the world of silk.
